Sixth formers from Norwich will get the chance to experience life as a medical student this half term.
The Medical Aspirations programme is organised by the Gifted and Talented team at the University of East Anglia.
Now in its third year, it allows students from backgrounds often under-represented on medicine degrees to see what studying to be a doctor is like. Sixth formers from seven schools and colleges in the Norwich area will attend the three-day course next week: City Academy Norwich, in Earlham, City of Norwich School, Kett Sixth Form, Norwich City College, Wymondham College, Wymondham High and Ormiston Victory Academy in Costessey.
The 30 aspiring medics will cover everything from medical ethics to restarting a heart.
The event has been funded by a donation from UEA alumnus David Tibble, who studied at the university in the 1970s. It will also fund bursaries to cover 50 to 100pc of the tuition fees for the highest-achieving Medical Aspirations attendees who go on to study medicine at UEA.
