Millions of people around the world have today been told about the plight of a Norwich youth project and school as comedian, actor and cult figure Stephen Fry has thrown his support behind the Evening News campaign to Save our Future Education.

Mr Fry, who has a home in Norfolk and is a Norwich City Football Club director, pledged his support for Future Education on the social network Twitter.

Future Education, which provides alternative education for year 10 and year 11 students with emotional and behaviour problems and/or a statement of educational need, is facing uncertainty about its long term existence after a vital Norfolk County Council funding cut was announced in July.

Although the current Year 10 students should be able to finish their academic qualifications after talks between Future Education and the county council, new students will not be able to start this year.

Mr Fry is well known around the world for his use of Twitter and has almost three million followers.

In the 140 character message he said: 'I'm supporting the call to save Future Projects #norwich as vital funding is cut.'

He also used the Evening News campaign hashtag, #saveourfuture.

He is among a number of well-known figures to show their support for the project on Motum Road including Radio One DJ Greg James and the former Blur drummer David Rowntree.

Politicians, including Norwich South MP Simon Wright, have also said they are concerned about the long term existence of Future Education and the Norfolk County Council funding cut, because of the success of its work with young people in the area.
