Books came to life in Sprowston yesterday as children unleashed their imagination and went to school dressed as characters from their favourite Roald Dahl books.

Children at Sprowston Infant School in Recreation Ground Road dressed as umpa loompas, the enormous crocodile and the ladybird from James and the Giant Peach to celebrate Roald Dahl’s Dahlicious Dress Up Day - a national day of fundraising for the author’s children’s charity.

Headteacher Lucy Wayman said: “We had one girl paint her face purple and dress up as Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have also had a lot of girls dress up as witches. They have been very creative with their costumes - the pupils enjoyed dressing up for the day.”

Those who did not dress up as a character wore yellow which was Roald Dahl’s favourite colour.

Ms Wayman added: “We have a lot of children in Norwich City shirts and even a yellow power ranger. Year one are currently reading the Enormous Crocodile and year two are reading James and the Giant Peach.”

Teachers joined in the fun and dressed up as characters including Fantastic Mr Fox and The BFG.

The school raised £62.72 for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity which aims to help children who suffer from lifelong neurological and blood conditions.
