Dozens of schoolchildren netted awards from Norwich City's Premier League football stars after completing a soccer-themed educational course.

Canaries striker Simeon Jackson and on-loan defender Ritchie De Laet, handed over awards to more than 70 children at Carrow Road yesterday.

The students have completed a football-themed educational course called the Double Club, which aims to improve English and mathematics skills in the classroom as well as football skills on the field – hence the name 'Double'.

A tutor taught groups of 15 students an extra hour of literacy and numeracy a week, at their schools, with all sessions themed around football.

Afterwards, the students are rewarded with an hour's football coaching from a Community Sports Foundation coach.

Jenni Dixon, NCFC Double Club tutor, said: 'Last term, all my Double Club students worked really hard in producing their own football-themed superhero stories and studying different ways of using and applying maths to league tables, ticket prices, match statistics and training activities.

'The presentation evening signals the final whistle of their Double Club 'season' in style.'

Students from Sprowston Community High, Catton Grove Primary, Lionwood Junior, Magdalen Gates Primary, Stalham High, Hethersett High and Reepham High schools all received awards.

This term, students from Great Yarmouth High, Sprowston High, Sheringham High and Astley Primary in Briston, will take part.
