A Norwich MP has been praising the latest theatrical production at a Norwich college.

"I am really proud of them."

Norwich north MP, Chloe Smith, praised the staff, students and production crew from Sewell Park College who worked on their latest performance of the musical Annie.

Miss Smith said of the show: “Simply an amazing performance. I’ve never seen children that obviously love the drama teacher so much. It was a pleasure to watch.”

The audience were whisked back to 1930’s America at the college on St Clements Hill in the north of the city, with the cast embracing New York accents.

Chloe Joy performed the role of Miss Hannigan, the orphans drunk houseleader, and her lover Mr Bundles was performed by Nik Jones.

The chorus was made up of orphans and street urchins who sang and danced to enthuse the audience while Annie, performed by Elle Smith, and Daddy Warbucks, performed by Jordan Chenery, delivered an exciting on stage duo.

Vicki Chenery, parent of Jordan, said: “This has been such a fantastic show. All the effort that Jordan’s been putting in at home rehearsing and going over and over his lines has been worth it. He’s been really committed as has all the cast but this has given him so much self esteem.”

Sarah Wood, drama teacher and director, said: “The students were amazing, professional, talented. The list of words to describe them is endless. I have been incredibly proud of what they have achieved and the way they have supported each other throughout. I have loved every minute of working with them and the show and all it entails is one of the many reasons I love my job so much.

“I am really proud of them.”

Annie was performed on February 17 and 18 and sold out. Last year’s performance of Bugsy Malone and the performance of Oliver the year before were also sell-out shows. The committee will be meeting this week to decided next year’s show.
