Friends and families joined together this week to celebrate a Norwich school's recent achievements at a special harvest festival.

Pupils at Edith Cavell Academy, on Duckett Close, were recently awarded the Anglia in Bloom's best young people's project under 12s award and to mark their success the school coincided it with their annual harvest festival on Wednesday.

Dignitaries including Judith Lubbock, the Lord Mayor of Norwich, and William Armstrong, the Sheriff of Norwich, were invited and pupils from reception and year one gathered tins of food for the Norwich Food Bank.

Amanda Butters, personal assistant to the school's head teacher, said: 'The award was won for all the hard work which had gone into our allotment and wildlife area and we decided to celebrate this achievement alongside our harvest festival.

'We are very proud to have won this award.

'The children also brought in gifts for the food bank and the Bishop Peter Fox, our local vicar, led our annual service.'

The school's cook also made homemade soup from produce in the allotment including pumpkin, tomato and basil, sweet potato and carrot soup, and also homemade bread - which was shared during a taster with the children, parents and guests.
