Norwich scouts are celebrating their patron St George with a special activity day.

Archery, an aerial runway and drum lessons are promised for the Southern Norwich Scouts when they descend on the Norfolk Showground this Saturday.

The event, which runs from 10am to 4pm, will be held instead of this year's Sunday parade, though the annual city centre parade will still take place on Sunday for Northern and Eastern Norwich Scout Districts.

Matthew Burrell, district commissioner for Southern Norwich Scouts, said: 'This does not mean that we will never parade in the city again.

'However several of our members wanted to try an alternative celebration.

'The last year has been so difficult, with many people worried about jobs and funding cuts, so it seems right to have a really fun day.'

Guests include district president Sir Nicholas Bacon and the scout's chief commissioner for the United Kingdom, Wayne Bulpitt.
