Norwich High School pupil Karina Chan has been picked for England at the World Schools Individual Chess Championships in Romania in May.
She was selected after facing the best in the country at the English Chess Federation junior squad championships.
Despite being the only girl in the under-14 age group, and a year younger than many of her opponents, the Year 8 pupil won one and drew one of her five matches to gain international selection.
