Five students of BA (Hons) Textiles won six awards at the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition, which encourages and inspires textile students and practising textile designers.

Third year student Lucy Kent received £400 for the Clothworker's Foundation Award for a material construction for either a fashion or interiors product created by non-conventional means.

Her entry was a material suitable for interiors made by embedding acrylic into thick felt, using a geometric pattern to engineer varying fluidity within the material when handled.

She said: 'The tutors at NUA have been extremely supportive of my work, encouraging me to push boundaries and take opportunities. To be recognised by an industry competition feels like real validation.

'Now I trust more in my work and ability – I feel an extra confidence and look forward to showcasing my work to a wider audience.'

Meanwhile, an outfit designed by a student of BA (Hons) Fashion has been named as one of the best 12 examples of fashion student work in the country in 2014.

Chloe Fuller's work has been selected by the UK Fashion and Textiles Association for two high- profile catwalk shows, including one in Parliament.

She said: 'I'm showing a full outfit comprising a coat, trousers and top which epitomises my whole collection. I'm trying to create something new using bonded fabrics to create impressions on the surface of the materials. I'm pretty excited to be going to these events but also very nervous.'

Sue Chowles, course leader of BA Fashion at NUA, said: 'It's great for Chloe, showcases the course and establishes Norwich University of the Arts at the forefront of fashion education in the UK.'
