A Norwich City legend joined in the celebrations as a long-running pre-school moved into new premises.
St Peter’s Pre-School, which has been based at St Peter’s Methodist Church in Park Lane, near Unthank Road, Norwich, for more than 40 years, has finally moved into new premises in the former Avenue First School site.
Plans have been in the pipeline for the pre-school to move into the Avenue Road site for up to four years.
Now the pre-school, renamed Peapod, has moved into the purpose-built building, its 110 youngsters will be able to enjoy a large outdoor playground, a pirate ship climbing frame and brightly coloured classrooms.
To mark the occasion, an open day was held yesterday which saw former Canaries winger Darren Huckerby unveil a commemorative plaque.
Pre-school manager Louise Tims, who is a keen Norwich City supporter, said: “It’s fantastic – words can’t really describe how we feel about the move. It’s been a long time coming but definitely worth it.”
Staff spent the half-term break last week helping to move all the equipment and toys from St Peter’s Methodist Church to the new site for the doors of the new pre-school to open today.
The school caters for children aged from two to four. The new name, Peapod, was selected after the children gave it the thumbs up.
“We had a list of names we liked and we showed them to the children. Peapod made them all laugh so that was the name we went for,” said Ms Tims, who has decorated the room she teaches in with yellow and green paint in line with her passion for Norwich City.
“The children are all very excited. They’re excited about a pirate ship climbing frame I promised them and they will have a large area to play in outside.”
