Local author Simon Scarrow is visiting Norwich High School next Tuesday, February 8, to speak to year seven and eight pupils about the first book in his new series entitled 'Gladiator: Fight for Freedom'.

The renowned author of 'The Eagle' series - who has had 13 novels published into over 20 languages, with UK sales of over a million copies - will give a presentation to the girls on life in ancient Rome to help them in their classical studies subject, and will be signing copies of his book.

Head of classics, Mrs Jenny Ingham, said: 'We anticipate the event will help to put Latin in its context, giving the girls a useful background to life in Ancient Rome.

'The girls are very much looking forward to meeting Simon. Our year eight students are taking part in a Latin play competition in the afternoon so it should set the scene nicely.'

The book focuses on the life of young Marcus Cornelius Primus in Rome, 61 BC. Recruited as a gladiator, Marcus faces a new life of demanding training, governed by strict rules, as he learns the skills of an elite warrior. But he is determined to seek justice for his father who was murdered by soldiers and his mother who has been kidnapped.
