The bride may have arrived at the church in something white - but her mode of transport was anything but traditional.

Viki King of Dickleburgh wowed onlookers in North Walsham on Saturday as she made her way to the town's Catholic Church to marry fianc Simon Dale - in a white freightliner truck.

Viki has been involved with the East Coast Truckers charity, which runs an annual convoy taking disabled children from all over East Anglia out for the day to Pleasurewood Hills theme park, since she was a young child, with her dad Gerry King a former chairman of the group.

At the weekend she was driven to the church by East Coast Trucker Jim Bennett. They made their way from Viki's home where she grew up in west Earlham, Norwich, and met up with four other trucks just outside Coltishall to form a convoy as they made their way into North Walsham.

Trying as gracefully as she could, Viki used a step ladder to get in and out of the truck, while Viki and Simon's one-year-old daughter Evie, arrived in more conventional style, with Viki's dad by car.

After the ceremony, Viki, who is 13 weeks pregnant with the couple's second child, and Simon were then taken in Jim's truck and followed by the convoy to their reception held at the Three Horseshoes in Scottow.

Viki, 27, is on the organising committee of the East Coast Truckers and along with her father and mum, June, is a convoy manager.

She said: 'I have been involved with the East Coast Truckers ever since I can remember, I was born into it. The truckers are like my extended family, I could not have my big day without them.

'People always seem to go to church in fancy ways in limousines or horse-drawn carriages, but I wanted to go on the truck, it was something a little bit different.

'As long as I can remember I have been telling Jim I wanted him to take me in his truck.'

The couple, who live in Dickleburgh, met just over three years ago when they both worked for Calor Gas in Norwich, and Simon, 38, was Viki's supervisor.

They got engaged on Christmas day a year-and-a-half-ago and straight away Viki knew how she would be arriving at the church.

Simon, who comes from North Walsham originally, said: 'I have known ever since we decided to get married that Viki wanted to come to church in Jim's lorry so that was not a surprise, the surprise was learning that they would be coming in convoy.

'It is a natural progression for Viki to come on the truck having been involved with the truckers for so long.'

This year the truckers are hosting their 25th convoy on Sunday, August 29. For more information, visit www.eastcoasttruckers.org
