Readers are helping to boost the coffers of the region's air ambulance, but more people are being encouraged to support the charity during a special week next month.

Air ambulance charities across the country are urging the public to help them raise funds and awareness during National Air Ambulance Week (NAAW) which takes place between September 24 and 30.

Among them is the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA), which the Evening News is supporting through its Lifesaver appeal.

Tim Page, chief executive of the EAAA, said: “We have been delighted by the response of the public in showing their support for National Air Ambulance Week. Many people have already signed up to our Come EAAA-T With Me fundraiser but, of course, we’re always happy to have more.”

This year EAAA is asking supporters to host their own dinner party with guests donating what they think the meal is worth to the charity, ensuring a fun evening for all involved and the chance to help a life-saving cause.

The Evening News launched its LifeSaver appeal to help the EAAA raise funds for two baby ventilators, which will cost approximately £10,000 for both.

The charity is hoping to kit out its helicopters with the very latest equipment as part of its drive to improve the valuable service it provides to families in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.

It hopes to be able to start flying at night in the coming months but this, and other rising costs, means it needs to raise around £6m each year to keep flying, as it receives no direct government or lottery funding and relies on the support of the public in East Anglia.

For support and advice in holding a fundraising event, contact Norwich fundraiser Jess Downs on 01603 489406 or visit the charity’s website at www.eaaa.org.uk
