The driver of a train heading for Norwich is trapped after it crashed into a footbridge in Leicestershire. The crash involved the 6.13am train from Nottingham to Norwich.

The driver of a train heading for Norwich is trapped after it crashed into a footbridge in Leicestershire.

The crash, involving the 6.13am train from Nottingham to Norwich, happened just before 6.44am near Barrow upon Soar station.

The crash happened after a dumper truck hit the bridge.

A police spokesman said the train was upright but the driver was trapped and efforts were under way to free him.

He said the train hit an object on the line and it was derailed. The six passengers on the train have been rescued and none have been injured.

Emergency services are currently working to free the driver, who is believed to have suffered leg injuries.
