The Red Lion in Drayton, a former coaching inn, has stood in Fakenham Road since 1678.

It is owned by Spirit Pub Company and has been run for the last 14 years by Peter and Kathy Kedzlie, who took on the venue after running a pub in central London.

The Red Lion will close temporarily from Monday (October 27) to start the extensive refurbishment and will reopen on November 13.

The bar will be completely revamped and there will be new, modern decor and contemporary furniture and fixtures.

There will also be changes to the menu, with specials and dishes such as wild boar burger, steak and ale pie and Korean spiced salad.

Mr Kedzlie said: 'We're hugely excited to be undergoing such a huge transformation. The Red Lion is a big part of the local community, so we're pleased to be able to offer even better surroundings and a great new menu to offer to our loyal guests and new guests alike.'

Mr and Mrs Kedzlie are also looking to recruit new staff for full and part-time positions at the bar and in the kitchen.

They were offering five positions, two of which have now been filled, but say there may be more vacancies once the refurbishment is completed.

Mr Kedzlie said: 'I am on the lookout for dynamic, hard-working individual on the bar and in the kitchen who want to be part of the team here at the Red Lion.'

Tony Jerome, a spokesman for CAMRA, said: 'We are delighted to see pub owners investing money in to pubs at a time when unfortunately 30 pubs close every week. We hope the revamp has taken into consideration the views of the community and that Greene King are offering locals a pub they are proud of and will use regularly to make it a success.'

Anyone interested in a position at the Red Lion should send their CV to RedLion.4331@spiritpubcompany.com
