Dragon festival is back – and it’s bigger than ever
Events' organisers gathered by the famous Snap dragon in Norwich Castle to launch the brochure for the second Norwich Dragon Festival.
Following the success of the first festival in 2009, this year's event is back with more than 60 dragon-related events, including 50 that are free of charge.
Activities and events will take place at more than 30 Norwich venues, and are all linked to the symbol of the dragon, which has been a heraldic symbol closely associated with the city since the Middle Ages. The festival is co-ordinated by Norwich Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (Heart), whose communications manager, Christina Lister, said: 'The 40-page events' brochure is packed full of fun, interesting and inspiring events which take place during the festival. There is already a lot of interest, so we recommend that people start booking for the 20 pre-bookable events now.' This year's events programme has doubled in size since 2009 and runs from Saturday, February 12 to Sunday, February 27, the second week being half-term. Sarah Salmon, duty manager and event coordinator at the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library, said: 'We are delighted to be involved with this high-profile festival. It gives us the opportunity to put on events for all ages, offering the library as a venue and promoting our various dragon-related materials.' The festival is organised by around 30 local groups and is once again full of a variety of events aimed at all the family including: art and craft activities, puppet shows, performances, re-enactments, film, open buildings, workshops, talks and exhibitions. The brochure also contains money off vouchers for use during the festival.
Copies can be picked up from key cultural venues across Norwich, from Norfolk's libraries and many tourist information centres. Copies can also be posted out – call 01603 305575, or email email@example.com to request a copy.
