Detectives in Great Yarmouth are investigating whether a robber may have used a gun or a replica to threaten the staff of a town centre store.

The balaclava wearing robber targeted the Spar store in the Market Place at about 9pm last Sunday.

Staff have claimed the robber was holding a bag with what looked like a gun in when he demanded that they hand over money.

After staff refused he grabbed some cash. All the staff could see of the robber's features were his eyes.

Police would not comment on the staff's gun claims except to say they were still investigating the incident and whether any type of weapon was actually used in the robbery.

A police spokesman said: 'He was a young male, of slim build and was wearing a black hooded jacket, a balaclava, blue jeans and dark coloured trainers. He made off with a quantity of cash.'

Anyone with information on the Spar robbery should contact Det Con Matt Cornwall of Yarmouth CID on 0845 4564567 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
