A shoplifter who stole a 35 pair of trainers from a Great Yarmouth store was put in youth detention for 21 days yesterday by magistrates.
Shane Esherwood, 20, was detained for three weeks after he admitted taking the trainers from Sportsdirect on Sunday.
Rachel Balfour, prosecuting, said Esherwood placed the trainers under his coat and then threw them into a ditch by Tesco after he had fled Sportsdirect when he was confronted by staff.
Great Yarmouth magistrates jailed Esherwood, of Magdalen Way, Gorleston, after they were told he had been on licence from a young offenders' institute at the time of the offence.
