An animal charity is appealing for information after a dead dog was found in a plastic bag in woods in Kessingland.

The body of the dog, a ginger long-haired terrier, was found half inside a carrier bag, but for some unknown reason the bag had been cut so that the dog's legs could poke out of it.

It was found by a teenage boy in woods at the bottom of Field Lane in Kessingland on Thursday. The dog was wearing a black leather collar with yellow stitching and it had three silver metal paw-shaped studs on it.

RSPCA Inspector Ben Kirby, said: 'This is a particularly strange incident and at this stage we are trying to establish whether the dog had died and was then put in to the bag, or if it had indeed been suffocated as a result of being put in the plastic bag.

'The dog was not micro-chipped, however it was wearing a distinctive collar and we are hoping that someone may recognise the description of the dog or the collar and come forward with information to help us with this investigation.

'A teenager discovered the body and it would have been a very distressing sight, it is really unclear why someone would want to do this, however if someone has deliberately killed this animal then we will do all we can to bring the offender to justice.'
