Canaries' legend Darren Huckerby could enjoy a windfall for his charity – if current striking hero Grant Holt nets 10 or more goals in the Premier League next season.

The 100 bet was donated to the Darren Huckerby Trust as he opened the new Coral bookmakers shop in St Stephens Street, Norwich, on Saturday.

If he wins the 5-1 bet, the winnings would be donated to his charity and if he loses, Coral agreed to donate 100.

He said: 'Hopefully Holt will do it. I fancy him out of everyone.

'Everyone looks forward to the big games against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool and I'm looking forward to Manchester City; there's a good chance they are going to be spending a lot of money.'

Speaking about his charity work, Darren said: 'The best thing about my charity for me is that it is Norfolk-based.

'We help smaller charities and we give money to people who are in need. We do all kinds of things; we support disabled football and we helped feed hedgehogs through the winter.

'It is not all about sport – it is everything. Sometimes it is just me being somewhere to help raise more awareness.'

He has previously supported the Teenage Cancer Trust Blue Moon Walk, to help raise money to build the first teenage cancer unit in East Anglia.

He spent Saturday morning signing autographs and speaking to fans at the new Coral shop.

He added: 'I am really happy with how the Darren Huckerby Trust is going. I am only a year in. I have got a couple of big things coming up, particularly around Christmas. We are looking forward to a great season on and off the pitch.

'I miss playing football, but I am busier now.' Manager of Coral, Zoe Nicholson-Tait, said: 'We are very happy to support the Darren Huckerby Trust because he is a real local hero and he did so much for Norwich City.

'People absolutely love him. Even though under 18s are not allowed in our shops, we are keen to support a charity which helps children because we want to support families.'

'We don't have our own charitable trust at the moment.

'It is always good to give back to the community.'

Although the shop has already been open for a week, Darren's appearance marked the grand opening.

He set up the charity to give something back to the people of Norfolk who had supported him for seven years while he played for Norwich City.

He played 203 games for the club and scored 48 goals.

He was twice named player of the year and voted into the Norwich City Hall of Fame.
