Two much-needed new reclining chairs were handed to the Priscilla Bacon Lodge hospice in Norwich last week, with the assistance of one of Doctor Who's arch enemies.

There was a Dalek on hand to help the Norwich Sci-Fi Club donate the chairs, pictured, which will be used in the day room for visitors of patients to sit or recline next to family members admitted to Priscilla Bacon Lodge, which cares for patients with advanced diseases.

Chairman of the Norwich Sci-Fi Club, Mark Dean, said: 'The visit went exceptionally well and the staff were thrilled with the new reclining chairs we donated.'

The money that allowed the group to purchase the chairs came from its annual sci-fi convention in Norwich, Nor-Con, which was held in November last year.

Louise Rawlings, ward manager at Priscilla Bacon Lodge, said: 'We are very grateful for this donation and would like to thank everyone who has contributed to it.

'As with any donation we receive, we have been touched by the generosity shown by all involved.

'At Priscilla Bacon Lodge, we are committed to providing excellent services to patients who have a life-limiting illness or who are coming to the end of their lives and I am delighted that people have been inspired to make donations to help further improve the environment of patients receiving care here.

'We also work closely with patient's families and this donation of new recliner chairs will help to make our patient's visitors more comfortable when they come to visit their friends or family members who are receiving care here.'

The wheels have been set in motion for this year's Nor-Con as well, which the club are hoping will continue to expand as it has done in recent years.

This year's three chosen charities will be Help For Heroes, Help an East Anglian Child and Big Cat Rescue Trust. Some of the cast of Red Dwarf, one of the BBC's hit comedies from the 1990s, will be on hand to raise some money.

Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Danny John-Jules (The Cat) and Norman Lovett (Holly) will all be at the UEA on Sunday, September 11 between 10am and 5pm for this year's Nor-Con.
