A bar manager of a Norfolk rugby club has ditched beer in favour of wine to raise funds for the club's changing rooms.

Maurice Durrant was on holiday in Italy enjoying a wine festival in a village when he had a eureka moment.

For the past nine years, Crusaders RUFC in Little Melton, near Hethersett, has been raising money by putting on beer festivals.

But now it will be holding its first wine festival on Saturday, August 12, from 2pm until midnight at its grounds.

'I'm hoping a lot of people will come and enjoy themselves and try the wines,' club committee member Mr Durrant said.

'We hope it will take off and we can make it an annual event.'

There will be 49 different wines on sale by the glass from all over the world.

And there will also be live entertainment from bands Hollowlands and Uncalled For.

There will be food available and tickets can be bought on the gate at £5.
