Woman makes 999 Norfolk police call because ‘ankles hurt from too much dancing’

Police have urged people only to use 999 for emergency calls, after a woman dialled up asking for help because her ‘ankles hurt from too much dancing’.

Norfolk police tweeted that the woman had rung 999 in the early hours of Saturday morning asking officers to take her home or call her a taxi because of her sore ankles.

Police tweeted about the call and reminded the public: “We’re here to help you, but 999 is for emergencies only. #maketherightcall”.

Last year, the East of England Ambulance Service revealed a string of unnecessary 999 calls the trust has received, including a woman who wanted an escort home and one from somebody who had a broken toenail.

Ambulance bosses said such calls diverted staff away from dealing with genuine emergencies.
