Warning issued after spate of car crime in Spixworth

PUBLISHED: 14:05 27 January 2011

People living in Spixworth have been urged to report any incidents of car crime following a spate of damage to vehicles.

Over recent weeks police have received reports of cars being damaged along Cedar Avenue and Chestnut Avenue in Spixworth.

Offenders have caused damage to wing mirrors, scratched cars and vans and smashed windows on several occasions.

Spixworth’s dedicated Police Community Support Officer Kane Casburn said: “If anyone witnesses vehicles being damaged please report it us immediately giving details and descriptions of the suspects so we can take action”.

To reduce the chances of falling victim to car crime Norfolk Constabulary offers the following advice:

Don’t leave anything on display in your car

Take your belongings with you when you leave the car - if you can’t, lock them in the boot before you start your journey

Fit an electronic immobiliser- this will prevent the car from starting

Mechanical immobilisers, such as steering wheel locks, are a good alternative to electronic immobilisers

Fit locking wheel nuts

Get an alarm installed

Consider marking all your valuables that you frequently take in your car

Lock all doors and close windows and the sun roof every time you leave your car unattended

If you have a garage, use it. If you don’t always try and park in a well lit open place

Always lock your car and garage

Anyone with information about car crime, or any other crime in Spixworth, should call their Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0845 456 4567 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
