The manager of a popular Norwich pub has hit out at the person responsible for daubing graffiti on its windows.

The attack on the Champion is the latest in a string of blows to be experienced by the Chapel Field Road pub, which was burgled in March, and has left manager Debbie Pearce on the verge of quitting.

Mrs Pearce, 44, said: 'It says Champion on all the windows and they've just sprayed every window. We've been burgled, we had someone threatening us a fortnight ago and now we've got this.

'It seems as if someone's got something against the Champion or us, but I don't know which one it is.

'I really just feel like saying that's it and quitting, but I will carry on because I'm that sort of person. It's just frustrating that these people get away with it like they do.'

The attack, which happened at about 1.20am yesterday, was captured on CCTV and the footage has been handed to police who are investigating the crime.

Mrs Pearce, who has been at the Evening News Pub of the Year-nominated pub since September, is still reeling from the burglary when she woke to find that the upstairs window had been smashed.

As previously reported, the burglar was caught after being found outside the building with blood on his hands caused by smashing the window. He was captured on CCTV throwing items stolen from the pub in a nearby bin.

Meanwhile, in 2009, the then landlords Jason Barker and his wife Nicola were subject to a vicious attack by unruly customers who assaulted them when they were asked to leave.

The graffiti attack is the sort of incident which the Evening News is trying to combat through its Graffitibusters campaign launched earlier this month to try and stop illegal tags blighting the city.

As part of the campaign, which is supported by Norwich police, Central Norwich Citizens Forum, Norwich City Council and the Norwich City Centre Partnership, people have been urged to donate money, paint or time to help keep the streets clean.

The next clean-up event takes place on Sunday, July 3, from 8.30am to 11.30am at the Rose Lane car park in Norwich.
