Up to £5,000 in Class A drugs were seized by police after they tracked a car from Newmarket to Wymondham.

Police arrested two men on suspicion of drugs offences after they stopped the car on the A11 near the Norfolk town at around 10.30pm on Thursday (March 2).

The men, both aged in their 20s and from the London area, remain in police custody.

Officers from the roads policing unit followed the car from Newmarket after receiving information about a suspicious vehicle.

They then made a co-ordinated approach before stopping and searching the car. As well as the Class A drugs, police found a small quantity of cannabis and four mobile phones.

It follows a pledge by Lorne Green, Norfolk’s police and crime commissioner, to pour more resources into the fight against hard drugs such as cocaine and heroin, as the number of arrests relating to their supply exploded by more than 500pc over the past five years.
