Three men remain in hospital with serious injuries after 50-mile police chase sparked by Norwich burglary

Six men were taken to hospital after the chase, which began when police were called to reports of a burglary at Cavell Road in Norwich at roughly 9.25pm on Wednesday night.

The high-speed pursuit spanned Norfolk and Suffolk and ended in Cambridgeshire, with the six men injured and five of those arrested at the scene.

Police have now confirmed that one man remains at Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge, with serious injuries and two other men remain at West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds, with serious injuries.

One of those is due to be transferred to Addenbrooke's later on Thursday.

The three other men have been released from hospital and have been taken into custody.

Police also confirmed that a self-referral had been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which investigates serious incidents involving police.

A spokesperson confirmed on Thursday that an independent investigation would be carried out.

After police were called to Cavell Road, suspects fled the Lakenham address in a black Mercedes C200, and police later spotted the suspected vehicle on the A11 near Wymondham, heading southbound towards Suffolk.

A police helicopter was also involved in the chase, which continued to Newmarket, westbound on the A14, with the car later heading the wrong way on the northbound carriageway of the A11.

It turned around on the A11, before it crashed on the junction of the A1304 and A11 at Six Mile Bottom in Cambridgeshire at about 10.35pm.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and it's not yet clear what the vehicle crashed into.
