It is hoped that anti-social behaviour and alleged drug taking at a controversial hotel chain will become a police priority this month.

People living in the south and east of Norwich have been asked by police to list the issues they want officers to focus on in the future.

And one of the top priorities raised by the public is for police to take action against drug use and ASB on Unthank Road.

But an email from police to city councillors - seen by this newspaper - reveals the focus will be on MJB Hotels.

The chain is owned by Tony Burlingham and its hotels in Norwich have some of the worst reviews in the county.

Neighbours to one of his premises on Unthank Road have previously complained about prostitution and drug taking.

But Denise Carlo, Green Party councillor for Nelson ward, said despite numerous attempts to get police to take action, little has been done.

She now hopes that by listing the hotels as a priority for officers, they will finally 'get to grips' with the problem.

'I put it forward because people living in the area still contact me saying they see drug taking in the area,' she said.

'All we want is for police to stop the anti-social behaviour from going on and to look at the lack of supervision on site in the way of staff.'

Police appealed to the public on Facebook to help officers in Norwich shape their priorities.

Other issues put forward included cycling on pavements, speeding and parking at Eaton Primary School.

But of the 58 responses, the vast majority called for action against MJB hotels.

Ms Carlo said the alleged drug taking and anti-social behaviour was centred around the Lodge Hotel and the Bristol House Hotel, both on Unthank Road.

She said over the weekend she had received a photo from one concerned resident about underage girls drinking outside the Bristol House.

'It has been going on for too long now and the authorities need to get to grips with it,' she said.

In response to the police poll, Jennie Morgan said there were issues with dealing in 'broad daylight outside family homes.'

Mr Burlingham was not responding to calls for comment.
