Training aimed at slashing the amount of time officers spend dealing with accidents and broken down vehicles has been undertaken by South Norfolk Police.

The project includes training to right overturned vehicles and drag damaged ones to a place of safety. More basic training allows officers to remove undamaged vehicles.

Insp Neil Williams said: 'If a vehicle breaks down on one the main routes into the county and is obstructing the carriageway, we would currently dispatch two police vehicles to protect that vehicle whilst it awaits recovery. This poses a prolonged risk to the officers 'fending off' traffic as well as causing significant delays for road users. If we can quickly clear that obstruction, we can free those officers and ensure traffic is more free flowing.'

Two purposely built Ford Rangers have been posted to Diss and Wymondham allowing trained officers to be dispatched across the south of the county.
