A 'professional' burglar, who targeted dozens of businesses around Norfolk, has been jailed five years.

Glenn Olley, 30, admitted a string of break-ins, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

In one break-in alone, he stole £100,000 worth of tools, from a van, in Barnham Broom, before setting fire to the vehicle in an attempt to avoid detection, Norwich Crown Court heard.

Olley also targeted Zak's restaurant, in Norwich, on two occasions, and in the last raid he smashed through a wall, causing more than £5000 worth of damage, a court heard.

Edward Renvoize, prosecuting, said Olley also burgled The Talk, in Oak Street, Norwich, in February 2014, and stole an empty safe, causing £1000 worth of damage, as well as stealing £500 worth of tickets.

Mr Renvoize said the raids were 'professional and planned' and said Olley had not acted alone, although no one else had ever been arrested.

Olley was finally caught in February, last year, when his DNA was found at the scene of a burglary at an archery store in Borrowdale Drive, Norwich, in which specialist bows worth £20,000 were taken.

The court heard Olley now wanted to wipe the slate clean and had admitted his involvement in a string of other offences.

Olley of Cavell Road, Norwich, admitted 11 burglaries, two attempted burglaries, two thefts and two arson offences and asked for 11 other offences to be taken into consideration. He also admitted possession of a small amount of cannabis.

Ian James, for Olley, said the vast majority of the offending went back to 2014.

He said that Olley had been co-operative as he wanted to clear up all matters and planned to spend his time in prison obtaining qualifications.

Jailing him, Judge Katharine Moore said: 'This was planned and reasonably sophisticated.'
