Investigations are continuing into the incident, which happened at about 5.25am on Saturday morning on Carrow Hill.

The victim, a woman in her late teens, had got off the bus near City Road and was crossing the road near the traffic lights when she was approached by a man.

He then followed her along Queens Road and as she walked down Carrow Hill, making inappropriate comments, before trying to pull her from the pavement.

But a passer-by intervened, causing the suspect to run off and stopping what police have said could have been a 'more serious attack'.

Investigating officer detective constable Eleanor Bull said the victim was uninjured, but was shaken up by the incident.

Over the weekend, Norfolk police appealed for the man to come forward in the hope he may have crucial information which would enable them to track down her attacker.

And they said on Monday morning that they had found and spoken to the passer-by.

But they said they are still hoping to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time - including drivers with dash cams and householders with private CCTV.

Detective constable Bull said: 'We are appealing for anyone with private CCTV, or motorists with dashcam who may have been driving around at the time.'

She said they had also received calls from witnesses with a potential sighting of the suspect in Christchurch Road at around 7am, and, while they are not certain it is linked, encouraged anyone in the area to come forward with any information.

She advised people to be mindful of their security when going out in the dark, and said investigations were continuing.

The suspect is described as black, aged over 30 and wearing a light coloured polo shirt.
