Football fans heading to bars and pubs in the city and across the county for England's World Cup semi-final against Croatia have been urged to keep their emotions in check.
Norfolk police have warned there will be “an increased police presence” during Wednesday night’s match in the city and in town centre’s to minimise the risk of any alcohol-related disorder.
No England fans were arrested in Norfolk following Saturday’s 2-0 quarter-final win over Sweden and police chiefs are hoping for the same result again, despite a place in Sunday’s final being up for grabs.
A spokesman said: “For those who will be watching the football we know an increased amount of alcohol and intensified emotions can sometimes lead to an increase in public order offences. We encourage everyone to enjoy the World Cup, but want to remind people to be considerate and tolerant of others.”
