A woman has been banned from driving for three years after crashing into a roundabout while nearly four times over the drink drive limit.
Rachell Braybrook, 22, of Bullard Road, off Woodcock Road, was found to have 130 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath after her Vauxhall Corsa crashed into the roundabout near The Bull pub in Middletons Lane, Hellesdon, on September 3. The legal limit is 35.
Norwich magistrates today (Tuesday) heard how Braybrook was on her way home from a friend’s party at the time of the accident and that there was a passenger with her in the car.
Braybrook pleaded guilty to the offence.
Denis King, prosecuting, said: “It was about 4.35am in the morning when a witness heard a very large thud. He thought it sounded like a car crash.
“He puts his slippers on and goes outside. It was dry road conditions, he said. He approaches the vehicle and Miss Braybrook and a male passenger get out of the car. There are skid marks on the roundabout and oil and debris leading to the roundabout.”
During mitigation, the court heard how Braybrook was “embarrassed” by the incident and that she was “foolish” to have got in the car.
It is not known how fast she was driving at the time of the crash.
Clive Astley, chairman of the bench, told Braybrook: “This is an exceedingly high reading and in addition to that, you crashed a car, causing extreme danger to the public.
“It crosses the custody threshold but as you have a relatively clean licence and have pleaded at the earliest opportunity, we are going to give you a community order.”
Braybrook, who works with adults with learning disabilities, was ordered to do 300 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.
She was also disqualified from driving for 36 months.
It is not the first time a car has crashed into the roundabout at Middletons Lane and Reepham Road.
Back in 2008, skid marks could be seen running across the roundabout when a Ford car crashed into The Bull pub.
