Dutch midfielder Wildschut, 26, who at the moment is on loan to Championship rivals Bolton, was driving a Mercedes along Colman Road at 1.26am on December 2, last year, when he was caught, a court heard,

Wildschut admitted the speeding offence at Norwich Magistrates Court and although he did not attend the hearing he was represented by lawyer Simon Nicholls.

Alex Morrison, prosecuting, said that Wildschut already had six points on his licence having received a speeding conviction on November 15, 2016 and another conviction on November 26, last year.

Mr Nicholls said that he accepted his guilt and said that originally he had been charged with failing to give identification of the driver of the Mercedes, but said police accepted it had been a genuine oversight as he had moved to Bolton with his family and never got the paperwork relating to the speeding offence.

Mr Nicholls said that it was a 'perennial' problem with his footballer clients: 'They keep moving them around the country.'

He said that Wildschut realised that he would be getting more points on his licence, which would mean he would have to be more careful in future.

Chairman of the Bench, Jocelyn Abel, imposed a fine of £293, and made him pay £100 towards prosecution costs. He was also liable for a £30 surcharge.

She also imposed five points on his licence, bringing the total to 11 points on his licence.

She gave him 28 days to pay his fines and costs.

Wildschut signed a two-and-a-half deal with Norwich City in January 2017, joining the club from Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £7m.

He scored once in 20 games under Daniel Farke last season - the winner in a 1-0 success at Sheffield United, in September, before joining Cardiff on loan helping them win promotion and played 10 Championship games for them last season.

Former Ajax forward Wildschut has now been loaned to Bolton Wanderers for the whole of the 2018-19 season,
