A long-serving councillor is planning to step down as an opposition group leader at City Hall.

Judith Lubbock, who is up for re-election in May, will relinquish the Liberal Democrat leadership at Norwich City Council, although she will remain part of the group.

The Eaton ward member's deputy James Wright will replace her.

Mr Wright said: 'The work that Judith has done is phenomenal both in the last year as group leader, but also in the 17 years she has been on the city council. This includes challenging the work the city council gets up to, such as the Greyhound Opening. I hope to follow in that mould.'

The Lib Dem group is currently carrying out a consultation asking residents how they would like to see the city council save 4.6m. Mr Wright said he wanted to ensure this continued.

Mr Wright, also an Eaton member, who was elected in 2010 but became a party member in 2003, said: 'We will make sure we still get out there, talk to people about their views on the city council and make sure they form part of the vision we have for Norwich.'

And Mr Wright said it was important to continue working closely with the city's other Lib Dem representatives, which include Norwich South MP Simon Wright and Norfolk County Council member for Eaton, Mervyn Scutter.
