A teenager who drunkenly attacked two friends in a case of mistaken identity is to pay them compensation.

Daniel Gillies, 18, of George Pope Road, in north Norwich, will also write letters of apology, and complete a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work.

He pleaded guilty to charges of assault by beating and using threatening words and behaviour towards Flynn Stapler and Lee Howarth on Magdalen Street at 2am on January 7, after mistaking them for two men he had argued with in a nightclub earlier in the night.

Gillies admitted punching Mr Stapler in the ear but said he had no recollection of hitting Mr Howarth. Both victims suffered minor injuries in the unprovoked attack.
