A 21-year-old man was flown to hospital today (Thursday) with serious neck and arm injuries, after falling on a chainsaw.

The experienced tree surgeon was finishing a job at Guyhirn, near Wisbech, at about 3pm when he slipped and fell, injuring himself on his chainsaw.

When the Helimedix team arrived by Magpas and police helicopter, the man was fully conscious. The East of England Ambulance Service paramedics had taken him down from the tree and were providing him with lifesaving first aid.

The victim, who was suffering severe bleeding from his wounds, was flown to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge, where his condition on arrival was described as serious but stable.

A spokesman for the Magpas Helimedix team said: 'We do not have any detailed information about how the incident happened, but the patient severed all the major blood vessels in his neck. The chainsaw went into his neck and his arm, so it was a deep wound.'
