Man caught dealing crack cocaine near Anglia Square

A "vulnerable" man, who was spotted dealing crack cocaine to a man, near Anglia Square, in Norwich, has been given a two year suspended sentence after a court heard he had been put under pressure to deal drugs.

A “vulnerable” man was observed by police officers handing over a wrap of crack cocaine to man, near Anglia Square , in Norwich, a court heard.

Police arrested Michael Barnes, 19, and found he had 34 wraps of crack cocaine on him with a street value of around £340.

Andrew Oliver, prosecuting at Norwich Crown Court, said Barnes also had about £30 in cash and two mobile phones.

Barnes, of Wherry Road, Norwich, admitted possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and asked for two other matters to be taken into account.

Michael Clare, for Barnes, said that he was vulnerable person and had been put under pressure to act as a street dealer for the drugs.

He said that Barnes was only 19 and had a difficult background.

“He is extremely vulnerable and has been used.”

He said he had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

Recorder Maureen Baker imposed a two year custodial sentence suspended for two years.
