A man is to stand trial for the murder of a 37-year-old man who was stabbed to death in Norwich.

Police officers were called to Bowers Avenue, Mile Cross, on Saturday, November 5 following reports of a person needing medical assistance.

Steve Stannard, of Bowers Avenue, received fatal stab wounds shortly before 2.30pm. He died at the scene.

Hasseim Baqir, 19, appeared at Norwich Crown Court today having been charged in connection with the murder.

Baqir, of Thornton Heath, Surrey, pleaded not guilty to murder and will go on trial on April 18.

Baqir, who admitted supplying heroin and cocaine, was remanded in custody and will next appear in court on February 17.

On that day co-defendant Veron Antonio, 24, from Surrey, is also expected to appear at the crown court having been charged with assisting an offender.

Mr Stannard, or Mr King as he was also known, was a familiar face on the city streets with his twin brother Eddie and the dog Trixy that they both used to help look after.

The pair have been described as 'inseparable' by neighbours in Bowers Avenue and those that knew them best in Norwich.
