A former Norwich City footballer has been charged with bribery in connection with an attempt to fix matches in Sweden, reports say.

Midfielder Dickson Etuhu, who also played for Manchester City, Sunderland, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers, and now works as a football agent, has been charged after an 18-month investigation by Swedish police targeting organised crime, it has been reported.

According to The Times, the 36-year old is accused of offering a bribe to AIK Stockholm's Kenny Stamatopoulos, his former team-mate, to fix a match against Gothenburg last year.

It is reported that on Swedish television his lawyer Johan Akermark said: 'He has not offered any bribe and he does not know anything about any bribe. He had a snack with the AIK goalkeeper, they knew each other and used to meet for lunch. He has an explanation of what happened and we will present it at the trial.'

Counsel with the Swedish FA, Anders Hubinette, confirmed the charge will now be dealt with in the courts.

He said the Swedish FA have been helping the police and prosecutors with the investigation and that its 'mission is to prevent match-fixing'.

Etuhu has also been charged with a minor drugs offence after cocaine was found during a search of his property.

He is understood to have denied all the allegations against him.

The former footballer moved to Norwich City on loan in 2006, before the club bought him for £450,000. He played 54 matches and scored six goals.
