A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car careered on to a Norwich roundabout.
Police were called at 4.45am today after reports from bemused motorists that a car seemed to have been abandoned in the centre of the Heartsease roundabout.
Officers who went to the scene found a silver Vauxhall car resting in the middle of the roundabout, where the ring road meets Plumstead Road and Harvey Lane.
They covered it in police tape while they attempted to establish what had happened.
It turned out that the man who was believed to have been driving the car had been taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital by ambulance after an incident in nearby Witard Road.
A spokeswoman for East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 6.48am today to an incident on Witard Road in Norwich. An ambulance crew was sent to help.
“At the scene the crew assessed a man, believed to be in his 40s. He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further care. His condition was not believed to be serious.”
Police subsequently arrested him on suspicion of drink driving.
