Dog walkers who fail to clean up after their pets could fall foul of council officials.

Broadland District Council and officers from the Thorpe St Andrew Safer Neighbourhood Team are to join forces to tackle dog fouling on the railway footpath in Dussindale.

Andy Jarvis, head of environmental services at Broadland District Council, said: 'Most dog owners are responsible people, but a minority of individuals have caused a significant ongoing problem, despite adequate provision of dog bins and signage.'

The problem was highlighted by local residents in a recent Safer Neighbourhood meeting with police.

Council officers, with support from the SNT, will patrol the footpath and issue fixed penalty fines of up to 50 to those who fail to clear up after their dogs.

In some cases prosecution may be considered.

The council is urging members of the public to report any incidents of dog fouling in confidence by calling 01603 431133.
