A family has returned to the same Norwich hotel and even the same bedroom where a baby was born a year ago to thank the staff and relive that momentous occasion.

The Nelson Premier Inn on Riverside had an extra unexpected guest after a baby was delivered in one of its bedrooms on March 29 last year.

Little Alisha was born two weeks early in room 10 taking her parents Natalie Bolt, then 16, and Ak Miah, 21, and the hotel by surprise.

The baby came in such a hurry that the midwife had to pass equipment through the open bedroom window, and by the time the ambulance arrived the baby was already there. But she proved to be a healthy 6lb 10oz baby and did not even need to go to hospital for a check-up.

Twelve months later Alisha and her extended family of parents, grandparents, nieces and nephews, returned to celebrate the baby's first birthday at the hotel.

Natalie's mother Desiree Bolt, who returned to the hotel with partner Richard Jennings, who was in Norwich on business last year, said: “The baby came so unexpectedly last year. We live in Hertfordshire and we wanted to come back to relive what happened, although we are not expecting any surprises this time. We will hopefully have an easier time.”

So many members of the family have journeyed to Norwich that they have taken five bedrooms, with Alisha's parents in the same room where the baby was born.

Ms Bolt added: “We also wanted to thank the staff for helping out with the birth last year. They still have a picture of Alisha on the notice board now.”

Kelly Wood, reception manager, said it was nice to meet the family again.

She said: “Last year the mother had come down at about 6.30am and said her daughter was in labour and was in the bath. It had all happened so quickly. We helped out by giving the family everything they needed, including the towels. They remembered me today and thanked me.”
