Costessey Town Council has resolved to 'move with the times' by launching a new website.

The authority held its first meeting this evening, after switching from parish status earlier this month.

Councillor Gary Blundell gave a presentation on a proposed new website for the council.

He said that the authority currently spends £200 per year on an outdated website, whose technology has been obsolete since 2007.

He proposed moving to a new provider which would provide a more up-to-date website, better customer support is free for the first year then £1.38 per month thereafter.

The website would keep the same domain name - www.costessey.org.uk/

Councillors voted in favour of the move, and chairman Viv Bell said: 'We've got to move with the times.'

Police gave a presentation on the county-wide part-funded PCSO scheme, which sees councils pay £16,000, topped up to £32,000 by Norfolk police, for a dedicated PCSO for their locality.

Joining the scheme would have increased the number of PCSOs in Costessey from two to three.

But parish clerk Hilary Elias said the council had already agreed its budget for the year, and there was no scope to find the £16,000.

Police said there had been 58 recorded crimes in Costessey in the last month.

Councillor Tim East raised the issue of mopeds and trials bikes causing a noise nuisance, using a private field off Bawburgh Lane.

Officers said they were aware, but there were many exit points for the mopeds to leave the field and they had not been able to speak to the riders.

The next meeting of Costessey Town Council will be on Tuesday, February 17 at 7pm at the Costessey Centre.
