Jo Wharam, 42, from Breydon Drive in Old Costessey, completed the challenge in the four hours, 44 minutes and 37 seconds at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park London Aquatics Centre.

She had to finish the inaugural Marathon Swims challenge in under five hours and has so far raised £750 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust - beating her initial £500 target.

Mrs Wharam has an 11-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl, said: 'It was really tough but just amazing to swim there.'

She supported the Cystic Fibrosis Trust because her friend's eight-month-old daughter, Molly Snelling, who was born in 2001, died from the genetic disorder.

Mrs Wharam was joined by scores of other amateur swimmers raising money for different charities.
