An artistic pub lover is being offered the unique chance of having their work put on display for years to come.
A Norwich pub is offering a £1,000 prize in a competition to find the best design for a new sign.
The pub sign at the front of the Mischief in Fye Bridge Street, near Magdalen Street, was knocked off its perch by a bus in August last year.
A temporary sign has since replaced it, but pub bosses are offering a £1,000 prize to the person who comes up with the best design for a new sign.
The pub’s general manager Jeff Davies said: “The sign must mention the Mischief pub on it, but the rest will be down to the designer.
“The previous sign was based on a famous painting, but we are looking for a completely new design.
“However, it must be an original design and the person entering the competition must be over 18.
“The £1,000 prize is for a drinks tab at the pub and must be spent at the Mischief so whoever wins it could, maybe, hold a party or whatever in the pub.”
As reported, the previous pub sign was a well-known landmark in this historic part of the city and had withstood the test of time for more than three decades, but it met its match when a bus swerved and hit it.
The sign depicted a boy with a slingshot who is hiding behind a tree after just smashing a window with his weapon, and was believed to be a copy of a famous painting.
The sign is now stored at the back of the pub and is too badly damaged to be repaired, but the pub could be tempted to sell it in aid of charity.
The Evening News has been urging people to return to pubs in our Love your Local campaign.
