Fifty days to go until Norfolk Day

These are just some of the descriptions from organisers of Norfolk Day events.

And with just 50 days to go until the big day on Friday, July 27 more than 100 events and celebrations have been organised by individuals, villages, communities, charities and businesses.

David Powles, editor of Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News which helped come up with the idea of Norfolk Day along with BBC Radio Norfolk, said: 'I'm delighted to see so many events organised for Norfolk Day. It is wonderful to see so many communities, businesses and charities support what will be a great day for our beautiful and diverse county.

'But it is not too late for people to get involved. Whether it is big or small, let us know what you are doing to celebrate this wonderful occasion.'

Doreen Joy, clerk of Mundesley Parish Council which has organised a free family village fun day, said: 'It is important for Mundesley to get involved because it is a great place. I love Norfolk. It is a huge county where there is so much diversity.'

She added Norfolk Day should become an annual holiday.

Daniel Smith, chef patron at The Wildebeest in Stoke Holy Cross and Warwick St Social in Norwich which are putting on Norfolk-themed menus, was 'proud' of his county.

Siv Sears, who has organised a mass cribbage tournament at the Top of the Terrace Bar at Norwich's Carrow Road, said: 'Norfolk Day is about raising awareness of Norfolk and its traditions.'

Rev Rosie Bunn, rector of the Belton and Burgh Castle, who is involved in an event at All Saints' Church in Belton to tackle loneliness and mental health, said: 'We want to celebrate the community. I'm a Norfolk girl so celebrating my county is a delight.'

Old Catton poet Matthew Jewell, 27, who is performing poetry at the Banningham Crown, said: 'It is nice to spread the word about what makes Norfolk brilliant.'

Norfolk Day is sponsored by Woodforde's Brewery and Richardson's Hemsby Beach Holiday Park.

Norfolk Day shop

An online shop has been launched selling Norfolk Day marketing material which event organisers can display on the day.

The shop is selling a four-pack of flags, four-pack of A3 posters and 20 balloons at £4, while 5m of bunting is £7.50.

Celebration packs containing all of the above are available for £15.

Norfolk Day takes place on Friday, July 27 and is intended as a day of fun in which individuals, community groups and businesses are encouraged to get involved by hosting or participating in events.

The initiative was launched by the EDP and Norwich Evening News in partnership with BBC Radio Norfolk and has the backing of business and community organisations who are planning events for the day.

Details of events will be revealed in the newspaper, online and via social media.
