A teacher from North Norfolk has set herself the gruelling challenge of climbing the four highest peaks in the Lake District in a bid to raise money for a cause close to her heart.

Naomi Perfitt, 24, from Coltishall, will take the fight against dementia to the Lake District as part of a fundraising challenge for the Alzheimer's Society, as her grandmother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Miss Perfitt, who teaches at St John's Primary School in Horning Road, Hoveton, hopes to raise more than 750 by taking part in the three-day challenge which will start on June 24.

She will be aiming to climb Skiddaw, Scafell Pike, Scafell and Helvellyn, all of which are over 3,000ft high.

She said: 'I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer's Society because my family and I are currently learning how to adapt, to help my grandmother live a fulfilling and happy life despite the disease.

'I have always wanted to climb Scafell Pike, and this challenge enables me to do this and so much more. It's great to know that every mile I climb will help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.'

She is beginning her preparations by climbing Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, over the Easter weekend.

Jo Swinhoe, director of fundraising and marketing at the Alzheimer's Society, said: 'We are delighted that Naomi is giving her time to support the Alzheimer's Society.

'As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Naomi to help us continue our vital work.'

A quiz night is being held at St John's Primary School to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society on Friday, May 6 at 7.30pm.

Teams of up to six are allowed and people are asked to bring their own food and drink. There will also be a raffle, games and best dressed table competition.

Tickets, priced at 3.50 per person, are available from the school office on 01603 782520.
