Clubbers remember Anglia Square nightclub in Norwich, as it reopens as Twilight, an events venue

And one of the places they headed to in the 1970s, '80, and '90s, was Rick's Place, also known as Scamps, Destiny and Deja Vu, before it closed nearly 10 years ago.

Last week the Evening News revealed that it had reopened as an events venue, called Twilight, and we asked readers for their memories of the former nightclub in its various guises.

Sue During, from Norwich, remembers it for two very good reasons.

She said: 'I have fond memories of Scamps nightclub back in the '70s, when Wally Webb, now at Radio Norfolk, spun the LPs.

'I won the Norwich heat for the original 'disco wear' and best dancer for the Record Mirror/Wrangler, which was a national competition, back in 1979. My prize was a £100 gift voucher for Wrangler jeans and lots of LPs.

'There were always party nights. Everyone knew one another, and it was a good atmosphere. We always had good times and got high on the music. But the best thing about Scamps was, I met my husband Albie there in August 1978.'

Meanwhile, Roy Scott, from Haydon Court, Norwich, remembers seeing former City manager John Bond and family at Scamps, before he became club manager.

Paul Allen worked at Rick's Place, and said: 'I am still in the industry and spent almost a decade as a DJ at the venue.'

He remembers a wing-walking event at the club in the early 1990s.

He said: 'We sent the then manager Brent Hinks wing-walking. It would be great to find out if anyone knows where he is, as he moved back to the Bristol area nearly 20 years ago and has not been heard of since.'

He has joined forces with another DJ to put on a monthly event called 'Back 2 The Nineties', which is coming to Wonderland at the Riverside centre in Norwich, from 10pm to 3am on Saturday, April 6.

He said: 'Back 2 The Nineties' is music I played at the club.

'Whilst it is not a Rick's Place reunion night, we play the music that got played there during its peak years, reliving the decade that a lot of current venues forget.'

As reported, new leaseholders Steve Brookes and Joan Bush have overseen a £30,000 makeover of Twilight, which now has three bars, two rooms and a Function 1 sound system, said to be one of the few in Norwich.

The new club is an events venue which promoters will pay to rent out and will be ticketed only.

The venue will be open for hire daily, and will be able to cater to up to 1,000 people.
