Hopes are high that a Norwich pub which closed suddenly last weekend will reopen soon.

The Maid Marian pub in Ipswich Road, Tuckswood, shut on January 30 after it went into liquidation.

The pub is owned by Enterprise Inns but licensee Nicola Siggery said the pub was trading under Maid Marian Public House Ltd which went into liquidation.

The news comes as the Evening News revealed another Enterprise Inns pub, the Walnut Tree Shades in Post Office Court, was shut after the leaseholder had a dispute with the company.

Ms Siggery and her partner Simon Marsh also run two other Enterprise Inns pubs, one of which is the Farmhouse, just off Colman Road, but the other businesses are still operating as normal.

The couple had hired managers, Andy Southworth and his wife Lynne, to take care of the day to day business of the Maid Marian.

It is believed they are currently in negotiations with Enterprise Inns to take over the pub themselves and it will reopen in the near future.

An Enterprise Inns spokesman said: 'The Maid Marian is closed temporarily. We are in negotiations with Mr and Mrs Southworth and hope to conclude their application soon and reopen the pub very shortly.'

As previously reported in the Evening News, Mr and Mrs Southworth moved down from Blackpool last summer to take on the Maid Marian and transform it.

Since they took it on, they have given it a new look and introduced home cooked Sunday lunches in a bid to re-establish the pub as a community hub.

Anita Dixon, 26, who lives in the Colman Road area of Norwich, said she hoped it did reopen soon as she had booked her wedding reception there for February 19.

The mum of four, who will marry Matthew Heels at Norwich's registry office, has been refunded her 200 deposit by Mr Marsh and Ms Siggery but said she was willing to pay the money again if the Maid Marian reopened so her wedding reception could still go ahead.

Last month, the Constitution Tavern in Constitution Hill closed its doors after owners, Constitution Motors, said it was not 'financially viable'.

The Evening News has been urging people to support their local pub as part of its Love Your Local campaign. For more stories from the Love Your Local campaign, log on to www.eveningnews24.co.uk and click on the special section.
